In Malcesine you should make time to visit the Castle with its museum and natural history display.  The Captains’ Palace is also well worth a visit.  May and June are great times to explore Monte Baldo which is considered to be the ‘Botanical Garden’ of Europe and provides hundreds of species of wild flowers for you to discover, not the least of which are many species of Orchid.

Verona (60km). In the City of Romeo and Juliet, you can admire the many historic buildings from Roman times (the Arena, the Ponte Pietra, the Porta Borsari and the Roman Theatre to name but a few), from Medieval times (Castelvecchio, the Scaligere Arch, the Lamberti Tower and the churches of San Zeno, the Duomo and Santa Anastasia) from the Renaissance period (the elegant Loggia di Fra Giocondo and many beautiful mansions which look out on the central piazzas of the city).  Then there is the old Market Square, the Piazza dei Signori and the impressive Piazza Bra.  In the summer you can enjoy the opera season held in the Roman Arena.

Mantova (90km)  Famous City of Art which visitors the chance to see some beautiful churches (the medieval Rotonda of San Lorenzo and the Renaissance Sant’Andrea), large squares, old theatres, museums and the famous palaces of the Gonzaga family (Palazzo Te and the Palazzo Ducale).  The Palazzo Ducale is like a city within a city and within its walls you will find squares, gardens, buildings, a church and many other interesting things.

Venice (120km) A city so famous for its wealth of Art, buildings and for its special beauty that it needs no further presentation.  The 400 bridges that cross the myriad canals create routes for the gondoliers and join the squares, churches and palaces that together make up one of the most unique cities in the world.

Bolzano (120km)  Situated in the heart of the Alps, this city makes an ideal place to start exploring the Dolomite mountains from and is, in itself, an interesting place to visit with its contrasts between the Mediterranean and German worlds. The pedestrianised historic centre is lovely to stroll around and to see its palaces and visit the local restaurants and bars. You should also visit the Duomo and the new museum where you will find Oetzi, the prehistoric man discovered in the ice on Similaun.
